I had a chance to do an illustration for the NY Times Op Ed page this week. It's in Sunday's edition with an article by physicist Brian Greene. Darkness on the Edge of the Universe.

November 8, 2010

Just finished printing a new calendar for 2011. Wow, time flies. Mostly inspired by my first year of living through four seasons. It's here.

Evah and I did a little madlib if you're curious on the Juxtapoz site.

Our friend in Japan has his new site up and there's a couple older sold out treasures there in case you might be looking. It's a super nice shop and gallery to check out if you are near there. New Accident.

Last week to see Figments and Come What May. The show closes Oct 16th.

Evah has a feature in the October issue of Juxtapoz. Ye Rin Mok took her photo and Kristin Farr made some Mad Libs and asked a few questions.

Deth and Ferris just had their show open at GR2 in Los Angeles. If you are in the area, go check it out.

The Paris Adventure
We're back from a great trip to Paris. Wine, cheese, meat and lots of friendly people. Thank you everyone who came out to support the show. We are both super happy with how everything turned out and we hope that if anyone missed it they get a chance to check it out before it closes Oct 16.

A few sites have been so kind to post some photos of the show and the gallery has also just posted their own slide show if you'd like to check it out:

FIGMENTS
Opens on September 4th in Paris at Galerie L.J.
My show and Evah's show Come What May will be starting on Saturday and running though October 16th. If you are in Paris or know anyone there please drop by. Vernissage Sept 4, 18.00-21.00.

Galerie L.J. is pleased to present Figments by American Artist Brendan Monroe. The exhibition will mark the artist's second solo show in France.

Brendan Monroe's universe is populated with characters and landscapes reflecting the depths of his subconscious. His aim is to recreate a place of solace and escape from reality, while holding onto the humanness of a thought. This imaginary world is presented as a novel experience and designed to be seen as if it were a series of thoughts or dreams. It is a place that is always evolving and characters are constantly stepping on and off stage. His characters are part element and part human. For example, anonymous humanoid forms in which each might reflect a different emotional quality more strongly than the other; a hidden desire or confidence to explore. This escape from reality is a peace of mind that carries with it an edge of unfamiliarity and mystery.

Brendan Monroe continues to explore his own mental world which takes the form of certain abstraction, contemplative and serene. Small agencies of molecular acorns or potatoes and not as present but the spotlight is on vast lunar landscapes and stringy rivers of color.

Brendan and his wife, artist Evah Fan, have recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden where they continue careers as artists and illustrators. Monroe received his B.F.A. from Art Center College of Design in 2004. He is co-represented by Faye Fleming & Partner in Geneva, Switzerland and Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica, California, USA.
